The arts industry in Singapore is made of many stakeholders from different categories, all which play a role in influencing the future of the industry. Many of these stakeholders can be seen playing a part in organising AYN, the most prominent being the National Arts Council initiating it. National Arts Council (NAC) falls under the category of public stakeholders. As a public stakeholder, National Arts Council is a government agency with the purpose of pushing agendas such as regulating the art scene, creating incentives for artists, and building a sustainable industry for the future. For the case of AYN, NAC’s purpose is to create art that is accessible for the community and is able to bring Singaporeans together. This agenda is also further supported by government agencies with the most prominent being Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth.

The private category consists of different organisations that are privately owned. This includes media companies, corporate sponsors and event organisers. Private stakeholders play a part in the industry by offering their expertise in areas such as organising, marketing, and operating industry related events and activities. For AYN, the event worked with several venue partners. One of which is Mapletree which classifies as a private stakeholder of the industry. Mapletree provides venues for AYN, which is an integral part of the event.

Under the people category lies stakeholders that participate in the very products of the arts industry. This category is represented by stakeholders such as artists, art performers and federations. Unlike the private stakeholders, stakeholders of this category are not part of any major corporate organisation. People stakeholder’s interests relates more to the art they are doing. They are considerably more involved in the products of the industry and many of them are the ones who produce such products be it music, entertainment, or visual art pieces.

Despite each stakeholder being different in the type of expertise and agendas they want to fulfil, the fact that all of them play an integral part in the influence and future of the industry is undeniable. It is also through events like AYN where one gets to observe how different stakeholders participate and work with each other to develop something for the community.

Community

Arts and the Community Community arts has since risen to the center of attention as they are known more than just being a lesser version of what you see in grand theatres and expensive exhibitions. What these community arts and its events bring to the community relates further than just being attractive to the human eye. One of such benefits is the engagement with the community. An example is ‘Jumbo Fabrica’, one of the programmes offered through AYN. ‘Jumbo Fabrica’ is an engaging walking trail which requires participants to learn about stories through audio guides and also take part in upcycling stations where they will transform an old furniture into something fresh and rejuvenated.
